USA COACH FRIEND UPBEAT AHEAD OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Tijuana, Mexico, September 10, 2015 - United States U21 coach Daniel Friend is familiar with the Baja California High Performance Centre. In 2012, he was in charge of the U19 team which participated in the NORCECA Continental Championship in Tijuana.

“I’ve been here a couple of times and so I think hopefully it will pay off,” said Friend, who also works as a coach with the Lewis University volleyball programme in Romeoville, Illinois.

“Some of these guys have been here, but not all of them. But as a coach I’ve been here before, so this makes some of the logistics easier to handle,” he added.

The United States team have held training sessions at the Multipurpose Gym as the World Championship nears. “We have been working out at the fitness area and have also played some friendly matches here,” said Friend.

The USA athletes hope to get the best out of the World Championship experience and already feel at home in a city which is just a few minutes away from the state of California.

“We feel a little bit more comfortable, so hopefully that can pay off for us,”  concluded Friend.
