RUSSIA, STILL UNDEFEATED DESPITE GIVING UP ONE SET


Tijuana, Mexico, September 16, 2015 - Russia kept their undefeated streak despite Canada won one of the four sets during the match between both nations at the Baja California High Performance Centre.

Russia won 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11) with a 9-6 block advantage. Segei Prainien topped for Russia with 15 points while Dmitry Volkov scored 12.

Blake Scheerhorn was the best scorer for Canada after finishing with 14 points. He was followed by Brandon Koppers with 8 and Arthur Szwarc with 7.

Both, Canada and Russia held a serving battle on the court and finished tied with eight collective aces. Four of Russia’s were by their captain Pavel Pankov, while three of the Canadians were by Arthur Szwarc.

Canada showed a resilient third set and returned to the game. 

Russia surrendered 35 points by error, and Canada gave up 34. The Europeans dominated in fourth set by improving their attack volume and concentration with 47 total points against 28 by Canada.

Russia will match Italy while Canada will match China in their last actions as part of Pool F on Thursday.
